الكتاب هو دراسة للحياة الاجتماعية في البيئة العمرانية والمعاني الثقافية التي صنعت الهوية المعمارية الاحسائية، الكتاب يهتم بشكل خاص بالشكل المعماري السكني ويدرس البيئات السكنية في المملكة ودول الخليج العربي لذلك فقد قام الكاتب بتطوير إطار تحليلي فراغي يقسم المسكن العربي في المنطقة إلى ثلاث مناطق (سوسيو/ثقافية) لها انعكاساتها البصرية الواضحة ومن خلال هذا الإطار تم دراسة المسكن وأشكاله ونماذجه والحركات الفراغية التي مرت به خلال القرنين الأخيرين.
